Do You a Have a Camper Just Sitting in Your Yard?
RVs, campers, or any recreational vehicle is an incredible purchase for the ever-adventurous family. However, sometimes as your children hit their teens, then eventually head off to College, parents begin to spend more time at home. In this case, an RV or camper often becomes more of an expensive burden on the drive or in the garage rather than a pleasurable part of your life.
Believe it or not, sometimes RVs and campers are parked up for years and don’t get driven. They begin to take up valuable space in the front yard -one that could be used for something else. Or, they get thrown in storage where they start racking up fees month after month. You get caught in a never-ending cycle, ultimately not knowing what to do with your RV or camper, and not knowing the best way to receive any type of value from it.
So, if you’re one of the people that is holding on to a used RV or camper, and you’re no longer making great use of it- don’t you think it’s now time to find the old chap a new home? Has donating your RV or donating your vehicle to charity ever crossed your mind? If not, it should, because this idea comes with so many benefits.
In this article, we’re going to discuss what exactly camper and RV donation mean, the benefits that come from RV and camper donations, the different ways your charity donation is used, what’s accepted, how to pick a charity, and of course, how to donate to us at Student Reach.
When You Do a Charity Donation of a Recreational Vehicle – What Happens to It?
When donating your vehicle, RV, or camper; charities typically tend to do one of two things with the charity donation:
In the first instance, they might use the camper donation or RV donation as aid within their charitable program, or distribute it to individuals in need. For example: teaching disadvantaged children how to repair recreational vehicles, or even taking children out on day trips or camping trips to fill their lives with a bit of joy and excitement.
Another thing they can do is sell it to fund their charitable programs. As a donor, you have every right to ask what will happen to your donation, or what it will be used for. You can also ask key questions like what is the mission of the charity, what goods or services it provides, and who it helps.
When donating your vehicle that was once used for recreational purposes, you’ll come to find that most charities accept RVs or campers in any condition. On the other hand, some won’t. In this case, it’s best to ask the chosen charity themselves before going further with a camper or RV donation. Keep in mind that each and every charity works on a different basis and will accept recreational vehicles in different conditions based on their policies.

The Benefits of Donating your RV or Camper Donations
When you have decided to donate your RV, camper, or any other recreational vehicle to charity, you immediately gain several benefits.
First of all, you get to clear that space in your garage, storage unit, or driveway.
Second, you can say goodbye to all of the added expenses this burden is bringing you. That means you can stop paying things like insurance, maintenance, and any storage costs involved.
Third, you get to feel good. There is so much satisfaction and joy involved when you know you’re making a difference in the life of somebody who really needs it.
Fourth, it’s not a secret that selling your RV or camper can be a daunting and time-consuming process, especially if it’s not in the best shape. However, it can be avoided by simply finding the best place to donate your RV or recreational vehicle. No need to pay for advertisements, or to deal with the hassle of constant phone calls, emails, and viewings – you just simply fill out a form, and wait for the charity or non-profit to get in touch with you directly.
Lastly, you’ll reap the rewards of a healthy tax write-off. The rules may be a bit strict, and the process complicated, but a tax deduction approaching the fair market value of the vehicle can be highly beneficial when done correctly.
Let’s find out more about the tax deduction process, and ensure you’re eligible.

Whilst it is rare, you’ll often find that people run scams where they pretend to collect for a fake charity. If you happen to come across one that might not feel right, here are the signs to look out for
The collector is vague about what the charity’s name is or what it does.
There is no charity name or registration number visible.
The charity registration can’t be verified through Charity Watch.
It’s also vital to keep in mind that some donation services are not really charities, they are just businesses that give very little money to the charity itself.

How to Choose the Right Charity for You
First of all, we want you to consider yourself a philanthropist no matter how much or how little you decide to donate. Even if you give $20, you are still a philanthropist. Our advice? Do your research to figure out what cause you would like to have an impact on, and take your time in order to discover whether or not the organization is doing the best work to face that problem.
Do you think they are? Great! Now, you can make them your charitable partner for life. Go on a journey with them as you continue to follow their progress, learn about them, and invest in their mission.
When you first buy a car, or cast a vote, you do a lot of research and ask a lot of questions – do the same thing here before you cast your vote for a charity with your contribution.
The best way to start is with a broad search, then narrow your way down from there. Feel free to use websites like Greatnonprofits.org, Philanthropedia, and GiveWell.org. While you can use them and probably receive some useful information, you should never rely on absolutely everything they say.
When you have done this, go ahead and carry out some interviews with your top two or three choices. You can even call and ask for tours or an overview meeting. Charities have development departments for this exact reason -to nurture and build a strong relationship with donors.
One last thing you can do is check out a charity’s annual report. Do you feel inspired? Do you feel their mission, their bravery, their boldness? Or, do you feel it’s cautious and formulaic? Remember, your overall goal is to feel inspired.
Aiming for a Tax Deduction When Donating Your RV or Camper? Keep This in Mind:
If your RV donation values over $500 and the charity sells it, you have to get a written notice from the charity to state that it was ‘’sold in an arm’s length transaction between unrelated parties’’, this should also include the gross proceeds of the sale.
If the charity intends to use your RV or camper donation throughout its programs, then you should get a written certificate of its intended and planned time of use. In this case, the charity must not sell or exchange the recreational vehicle before the planned time of intended use.
If your camper or RV donation values up to more than $5,000, you should also receive an independent appraisal that states this.
The charity must not sell or exchange the recreational vehicle before the planned time of intended use. If the RV or camper is worth more than $5,000, you must also get an independent appraisal stating so.
If your RV or camper is worth more than $500, you will need to file IRS Form 8283 and attach it to your return. If the RV or camper is worth more than $5,000, in addition to Form 8283, it might be a good idea to include the independent appraisal and the charity’s certification with your return as well.
